Whether you’re a newbie just starting out or a seasoned pro seeking some fresh inspiration, MelodyStudio has all the goods to help you whip up some killer melodies that will make your music pop!

Here are five songwriting exercises you can try with MelodyStudio to improve your craft and expand your creative horizons:

1. Edit the melody suggestions.

After putting in your lyrics and choosing a chord progression, generate melodies for the first line of the song section and pick your favorite. Then, play around with editing the melody by moving some of the notes up and down, making some shorter and others longer. You can also lock the key, making it easier to find alternate pitches that will work with your music. This will give you a sense of what the possibilities are and start giving you a deeper understanding of what melodies are all about.

2. Play with unusual key signatures.

Try to write a song in a key that you don’t usually write in. If you always write in major, you can try minor – or vice versa. Or pick a key at random! You may be amazed at how different your music sounds with this simple change.

3. Alter a chord progression.

After picking a key, listen to MelodyStudio’s ideas for chord progressions, and pick one. Then, see if you can edit it by replacing one or more chords with alternate chords from the same key signatures. It’s a lot of fun, and you will get deeper insight into how to make your own chord progressions!

4. Build with one generated melody.

This one is more advanced! After choosing a melody for a single line, try to see if you can come up with the melodies for the subsequent line of lyrics, the whole section, or maybe even the whole song! You can enter your own melodies in the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

5. Go for the first suggestion.

This is another advanced challenge. Select the very first chord progression or melody suggested by MelodyStudio (or even both!). The idea here is to step out of your comfort zone. Feel free to edit them a bit, and then build out a song section or an entire song around these ideas. You may be amazed where this takes you!

By trying these songwriting exercises, you can improve your songwriting skills, expand your creative horizons and take full advantage of MelodyStudio’s power and features. It’s a great way to start writing your own music and push yourself to new creative heights.
